The American Bible Challenge

The American Bible Challenge with Comedian and author, Jeff Foxworthy, as host will premiere on the Game Show Network on Aug. 23. This studio-based game in which contestants compete based on their knowledge of the Bible.  Utilizing current as well as historical references, questions will be drawn from the rich, dense narrative found in the world's best-selling book.  The contestants will share their compelling back-stories and each team will be playing for a charitable organization. The American Bible Challenge is produced by RelativityREAL for GSN, with RelativityREAL’s Tom Forman (“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”) and Embassy Row’s Michael Davies ("The Newlywed Game," "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire") serving as Executive Producers on the project.  Nick Stuart and Maura Dunbar of Odyssey Networks are Consulting Producers. (publicist release)

I was given a link to The Making of The American Bible Challenge (you can click on the highlighted words to see it for yourself), so I could get a feel for what the show is about. For starters, I seldom watch television, so I really wasn't quite sure about current game shows. On the other hand, I do love trivia and the Bible (and have always liked Jeff Foxworthy), so the concept intrigued me. What I found was a combination of knowledge, fun, and the chance to make a difference in the lives of others. The subject matter is applicable to my life, and it is presented in a way that is also culturally relevant. I can totally "get" a category like Biblical Tweets. The fact that the contestants are vying for cash prizes to donate to such worthy causes as feeding the hungry, ending human trafficking, etc. makes this a winner in my eyes! I think the show is a breath of fresh air that faith and fun most certainly do make a great combo.

Jeremy Riddle ~ FURIOUS

Fu*ri*ous [fyoo r-ee-uhs]

adjective

1. full of fury, violent passion, or rage; extremely angry; enraged

2. intensely violent, as wind or storms.

3. of unrestrained energy, speed, etc.: furious activity

There is no doubt that FURIOUS, the latest cd offering by Jeremy Riddle, fits the third and lesser used definition of the title word. From the first track, Fall Afresh, I was captivated by this worship cd. One Thing Remains with the reminder, "Your love never fails" is one I could (& have) listened to repeatedly. Actually there is not a single song on this cd that I don't enjoy. I am a huge fan of Chris Tomlin, Hillsong United, Kristian Stanfill, etc., so if that is the style of praise and worship music you like, there is no doubt you will listen to this cd frequently!!

But, I admit, I was enjoying it and was just listening while doing other things until I got to track 7: Walk In The Promise had a slow build-up that drew me in and got my full attention. Even more important, it brought my focus on God rather than the musician. Then, One Thirst became my new favorite!! Listen to it:

The rest of the cd lives up to the promise of the other songs. This is one cd I would recommend to anyone! I admit that I did not know his name before I was offered a copy of Furious to review, but I am now a fan!! Here are a list of links for you to keep up Jeremy Riddle:

The Shunning dvd

Katie Lapp, is preparing to marry the widowed bishop, John Beiler, and become a mother to his sons. Yet  her desire to play her guitar and sing songs that are not part of her Amish upbringing leave her feeling restless and uncertain of who she really is. When an "English" woman arrives, searching for Katie's mom, long-held secrets come to the surface.

Laura Mayfield-Bennett is ill, and wants to see the daughter she never knew.  When Katie discovers she's adopted, it only increases the confusion she feels and sparks the quest to explore what might have been. Her rebellion causes the community to shun Katie until she is prepared to repent.

This is a story that has a few too many coincidences for my taste, but still one that I followed with great interest. Consequence of actions, regrets, rebellion, and restoration are all covered and you get glimpses of another point of view. Great acting, and the film did capture my attention and keep it from beginning to end. This film is based on the book by Beverly Lewis.

Newest Release By Ginny Owens

Ginny Owen's latest cd, Get In, I'm Driving is a song that speaks to many of her own personal issues, but also appeals to others with its universal message. Her first studio release in 5 years, the songs have more of a jazz feel to them. That normally is not my favorite style, but I admit it has grown on me as I have listened today. The title cut has a touch of irony considering that Ginny is blind, but also serves to underscore that we need to let God be the "driver" in our own lives. "Joined At The Heart" is sure to become a fan favorite. I especially loved the line "...part of a greater story, written by the Author of miracles and stars"!

"Lay It Down" had a great beat to it, as well as a timeless message that we don't have to carry our own burdens. I also loved her cover of "Higher Ground"; it had a bluesy feel to it that really resonated with me. Now I am torn over which song is my favorite: The upbeat "Daughter Of Destiny" captures my attention with each playing. However, the final track, "The Song" has a poignancy that really appeals to me. Bottom line, all of the songs are good!

Besides her talents as a musician, I love the way she serves God in other ways. I know I remember her involvement with recovery efforts after Hurricane Katrina.  In 2005 Owens launched The Fingerprint Initiative, a hands-on, non-profit organization designed to “bring hope to the world, one project and one touch at a time.” The organization has partnered with  and raised money for groups such as Compassion International, International Justice Mission and Habitat for Humanity.

Please check out Ginny Owens through the various sites listed below. If you are new to Ginny's music, I am sure you will want to check out her previous work. She has a marvelous gift!

Robert Pierre cd Give-away

Robert Pierre's third cd, I'm All In, will be released on July 26, 2011. This is a very personal collection of  songs that Robert wrote or co-wrote (with the sole exception being Sing For Joy). The following is what Robert himself had to say about this cd:

“All of the songs have something to do with things I was going through my senior year,” Robert said of I’m All In, “preparing to say goodbye to friends and not really knowing what would come next, but finding comfort and peace in the Lord’s plan for my life. The Bible talks about how the eyes of the Lord are searching to and fro throughout the earth, searching for someone whose heart is wholly His, someone He can strongly support. This CD is me saying, ‘I’m all in.’”

The following is a list of links where you can check out Robert Pierre for yourself.  The Amazon link also will let you listen to samples of each song on the cd.

Website:  http://robertpierre.com

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/RobertPierreMusic

Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0059388YI/ref=dm_sp_alb?ie=UTF8&qid=1310674129&sr=8-1

Ok, I admit that I am a bit torn on this one. The first song on the cd, I'm All In had a techno/ pop beat that, frankly, annoyed me. This continued for 2 more songs: lyrics I loved, but the music was just not what I wanted to hear. Many of the songs use this same style. The 4th track, Maker Of The Stars was more to my taste (and for those who know me...it is NOT because of the title!! lol) I also really liked Sing For Joy, but my favorite was  the final track, Trust In You. Both the lyrics and the style touched me.

So, you can see why I am torn on this one. This is well done, and the lyrics really spoke to me, so this may be one I prefer to read instead. Seriously, I am sure my daughter or granddaughter will be grabbing my copy to enjoy!! I did hear Robert Pierre live last year on the WINTERJAM 2010 tour. I enjoyed his music, especially his version of  You Hold Me Now. I doubt if I would go just to hear him, though.  He is talented, but just not a right fit for me.

I said this is a review and a give-away, so here are the rules: Comment on this blog post (or to me if you have problems, so I can enter you myself) no later than 11:59pm CDT to be entered into a random drawing.
