Just One More review

JUST ONE MORE (2026) follows Jess (Emma Filley), a recovering addict struggling with shame, doubt, and the weight of her past, whose life unexpectedly collides with Charles (Lance E Nichols), a dying man praying that God would use him “just one more” time. As their stories intertwine, Jess begins to discover forgiveness, healing, and the hope to fight for a future beyond addiction.

This is an emotional, character-driven story about redemption, perseverance, and the life-changing impact one person can have on another. At its heart, Just One More is about choosing hope one more time, even when life feels impossible.

This is the kind of movie that stays with audiences long after the credits roll, leaving them encouraged, reflective, and inspired. Directed by Kaleb Michael Cook and Kyler David Cook, other actors include Christian McCartney (Xavier), Lily Brody (Raya) and Todd Terry as Dr. Henley.

KEY THEMES:

*Redemption - Nobody is beyond another chance.

*Perseverance - Strength is often found in refusing to quit.

*Hope - Even in difficult seasons, there's a reason to keep going.

*Family & Relationships - Healing, reconciliation, and the people who stand beside us matter.

MY REVIEW: "Just One More" is more than just a film about addiction; it is a film about hope, encouragement, and getting another chance when you stumble. Surrounded by people who care about you, even when you are not always loveable, can be a major impact on a person trying to break free. I loved the character of Charles, a man nearing the end of his life, but still desiring to reach others for Christ. Simply sitting on his lawn with a sign asking people to stop and pray was all he had left to do, but he was making a difference. The additions of Xavier and Raya brought peers for Jess to lean on and examples of love for others with their relationship with Charles. The continuing struggles were realistic, as was the hope for the future by the end. It is a movie worth watching.

MY REVIEW:

Christmas at the Cabin is a fun movie to watch! Michelle (Marianne Haaland), a very focused individual person who loves a good plan...and expects things to go by her plan, needs to recover from a stressful situation at work. Her PLAN is a relaxing visit to their winter cabin with husband Josh (Corey Cannon) and sister Poppy (Sharon Oliphant). The car sliding into a snowbank gave this vacation a bumpy start, but next is the shocking discovery of Josh's old college roommate Gus (Stacey Sheffield) staying at the cabin, uninvited. Michelle is not pleased

Tensions rise as Michelle struggles with clumsy accidents, nothing going as planned and her continued clashes with Gus. When everyone appears to be against her, she goes rushing outside in a snowstorm, soon getting lost and trapped. Her rescuer, Luke (Todd Terry), shares soup and wisdom with Michelle to help her realize that she doesn't have to control everything. As a person who fights my own control-freak tendencies, I loved this part of the film. Luke leads her back to the cabin and to a joy-filled reunion and fresh start for everyone. If you enjoy a film that has fun, friends, family, and faith, you will love "Christmas at the Cabin." The characters and the actors who portrayed them were all fabulous, plus beautiful scenery and original music add to the pure enjoyment.

Synopsis: Michelle and Josh are ready for a cozy Christmas at their cabin. They invite their friend Poppy to join. Simple, right? Not quite. On the way, their car skids into a snowbank. When they finally reach the cabin, the door is wide open. Then, in true holiday chaos, they accidentally bear-spray Josh’s old college buddy, Guy — who showed up uninvited.

Michelle, who loves a good plan, struggles with Guy’s wild energy. He drives her crazy... but somehow boosts Poppy’s confidence with his charm and antics. When a blizzard hits, tensions skyrocket. After one too many of Guy’s offhand jokes about God, Michelle snaps. She storms out into the storm — and quickly gets lost.

Enter Luke, a rugged stranger who rescues her. With his quiet wisdom, he helps Michelle realize how much her need for control is costing her. Back at the cabin, Michelle opens up to Josh and Poppy. Old wounds heal. New laughter fills the air. As the snow clears, they leave the cabin with a stronger bond — and a Christmas they'll never forget.

“Christmas at the Cabin” delivers a touch of chaos and laughter, plenty of heart, and one truly unforgettable Christmas. Beautiful scenery blends with original music and beloved holiday classics, making this a perfect film for the entire family.

The Unbreakable Boy

THE UNBREAKABLE BOY starring Zachary Levi, Meghann FahyJacob Laval, Patricia Heaton, and Todd Terry will be in theaters nation-wide beginning February 21, 2025.

When his parents, Scott (Zachary Levi) and Teresa (Meghann Fahy), learn that Austin (Jacob Laval) is both autistic and has brittle bone disease, they initially worry for their son’s future. But with Scott’s growing faith and Austin’s incredible spirit, they become “unbreakable,” finding joy, gratitude, and courage even in the most trying times — an extraordinary true story about a father and son learning together that every day can be the best day of your life!

From Kingdom Story Company, the team behind JESUS REVOLUTION and THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER, and Lionsgate, the studio behind WONDER, comes THE UNBREAKABLE BOY... based on the book by Scott LeRette. The director is Jon Gunn. Buy Tickets!

Watch the trailer:

My Review: I loved this movie! There are heartbreaking moments in the film with Austin's health issues and the struggle his parents have to cope with his care, yet "The Unbreakable Boy" is also inspirational, hope-filled, and some parts are laugh-out-loud funny! Drew Powell as "Joe" brings comic relief, but the sheer joy of living demonstrated by Austin, wonderfully played by Jacob Laval, lifts the film higher even in some of the most serious scenes.

Each of the actors, whether they are a major or minor character, are outstanding. Zachary Levi and Meghann Fahy were excellent as they dealt with the many issues in their lives and grew stronger over the years. I loved Patricia Heaton and Todd Terry as Scott's parents. And Austin's younger brother (Logan), played by Gavin Warren, is admirable as the supportive sibling. The younger versions of Austin and Logan are to be commended also. This is definitely a MUST-SEE, in my opinion.

Drawing from his blockbuster podcast “The Way I Heard It,” this cinematic tour de force will take viewers to the frontlines of the American Revolution, World War II, the Civil Rights movement, and more.

MY REVIEW: If you love History, and even if you don't, you will love this fascinating look at some of our American patriots. Mike Rowe has his own place in history as one of America's beloved storytellers, and he uses his talent to skillfully create tales of people who made their mark in the history of the United States of America. Even the stories I knew were told in a fresh style, and with Rowe's heartwarming touches of humor. Those I didn't know gave me an appreciation for people who made an impact on the lives of many...and the desire to know more. I truly hope this is only Part 1 of a series on American Patriots.

Legacy Peak

Legacy Peak is an inspiring family adventure movie about perseverance and moving on from the past. Hoping to propose to her soon, Jason (Lucas Black) wants nothing more than to have Noelle’s (Ina Barrón) kids like him. But when a
perfectly planned trip to her parent's mountain cabin falls apart, the adventure could tear them apart or bring them closer than they ever imagined. Together they'll discover how to trust again and what it means to be a family.

Legacy Peak will be exclusively on Pure Flix starting September 22nd!

"Legacy Peak" is a movie about pushing past your fear to start a new adventure!

MY REVIEW: I was unsure about Legacy Peak since adventure-type films is not my first choice, but I am a fan of Lucas Black (Jason) and Todd Terry (Grandpa). It did not take long for me to become immersed in the story! Jason wants to marry Noelle, so flying her two kids to their grandparent's mountain cabin seems like a fun way for the three of them bond while Noelle ties up loose ends before traveling by car.

A meticulous planner, Jason has a notebook filled with schedules and ideas to achieve his goal of getting the approval of Noelle's children and dad. Of course, plans fall apart when he is forced to make an emergency landing. Teenager Sam (Kyleigh Bakker) is suspicious of Jason's intentions and reluctant to trust him. Her younger brother Ben (Roman Engel) is enthused, impulsive, and prepared to accept Jason wholeheartedly! Miles from civilization, they have to learn to work together to survive the cold, wolves, and their own fears and insecurities. Ben is also diabetic, so finding food and shelter is vital.

Lucas was perfect in his role as a man who works through his own insecurities and proves himself. Kyleigh and Roman were both very good at character development and it didn't feel like a rush to tie up the loose endings. Todd had a small role, but his character was a man of compassion, kindness, humor, and dependability. Director Aaron Burns also wrote the story and Matt Mikalatos (who is also a fantastic author,) wrote the screenplay. I loved the movie and highly recommend it for a family night film. (*some scenes may be scary for the under-10 kids)

VINDICATION: Season 2 Episode 4

Season 2 of VINDICATION is rolling out new episodes and the series has somehow kicked it up a notch from Season 1. I had high expectations and they were surpassed.

Over a year has passed since we last saw Travis with family and co-workers and there has been a few major changes. It's easy to catch up, though. The story lines, characters--- both old and new---, quality, etc. are more intense than ever and leave this viewer eagerly anticipating the next episode. These cliffhangers! 🤯

I will be specifically reviewing Episode 4, but first watch the Season 2 trailer at Vindication S2 trailer.

EPISODE 4 OVERVIEW: "Perspectives" -
A veteran (Garry Nation with known racial prejudices reports a stolen tractor and lands Travis (Todd Terry) in a difficult spot. Doris (Laurie Coker) makes a request of Becky (Peggy Schott).

REVIEW: Tensions continue to mount due to changes in the 2 precincts in personnel and personal relationships. The friendship between Kris (Venus Monique) and Kevin (Matt Holmes) gets more complex, family issues in the Travis family are unresolved, and there is growing conflict at work. A focus on racial prejudice comes to the forefront when new detective Tre Millwood (TC Stallings) and Travis visit a Vietnam vet who has reported a stolen tractor. Different perspectives on racial prejudice are explored, along with the desperation faced by aging veterans. Garry Nation gave a performance that turned what could have been a stereotypical character into a man whose experiences in life have left him struggling to fit into a world that has changed, leaving him a bit fragile and confused.

The story, written and directed by Jarod McFlaherty, raises more speculation than it gives answers...and is one of the reasons I love this series so much! It makes me think and it leaves me wanting more. The actors, both regular and guest actors, are outstanding. (Shout out to Roni Hummel Casting!) Vindication is a well-rounded series that appeals to viewers on several levels, and Episode 4 has several threads I want to follow. The finished tapestry is going to be fantastic. I recommend this episode, but you'll want the entire series!

GIVEAWAY: If you don't have a subscription to PureFlix.com, I am offering you an opportunity to WIN a FREE PURE FLIX SIX-MONTH SUBSCRIPTION! Vindication - Season 1

Have you seen Season 1 of VINDICATION? This is an episodic faith-based crime drama series that matches the quality of any crime drama I have watched... but with a twist seldom seen on television. When I initially saw Episode 1 with guest star Ben Davies, I was frankly surprised by the ending and my curiosity was piqued about the future episodes.

Vindication covers the life of Detective Gary Travis (Todd Terry) at work and at home. His wife Becky (Peggy Shott) and daughter Katie (Emma Elle Roberts) are frequently directly or indirectly connected to each episode. The East Bank Police Department is where Travis works with his boss Sgt. Tomlinson (Steve Mokate), computer expert Kevin (Matt Holmes) and Gary's new detecive trainee Kris Tanner (Venus Monique). The interactions evolve over the series and the viewer becomes emotionally invested in these characters.

Director/Writer Jarod O'Flaherty has brilliantly created a story arch that is building the foundation of the series. Each episode is wonderful on its own, but the character development is what draws the viewer deeper into the series.(Other writers are Alan Tregoning and Micheal Willbanks.) Fans of faith-based films are sure to recognize many of the guest stars and background actors in the series, too.

Topics of episodes include drugs, adultery, human trafficking, sexting, kidnapping, PTSD, domestic violence, relationships, and more. These are stories that could be ripped out of the headlines, but often making unexpected turns. While this does have a faith-based theme, Christianity is not the main topic. Vindication does not have violence and bad language, but it does have good stories told well that are suitable for teens and adults.

PureFlix has all episodes of Season 1 (and currently releasing episodes of Season 2) for you to enjoy over time... or to binge!
If you don't have a current subscription, try the FREE TRIAL at Pureflix.com for 1 week. I highly recommend you check out the Vindication series for yourself!

'Beyond' Birthday Giveaway

My birthday is this month and I want to celebrate by giving away a DVD copy of one of my favorite movies. Beyond the Farthest Star is an insightful story that centers on a family that is slowly being destroyed by the inside out due to lack of communication and long-buried secret. Pastor Adam Wells (Todd Terry) was once an internationally known child preacher who has now been reduced to a handful of parishioners since a move to the small town of Leonard, Texas. Maurene (Renee O'Connor), once the high school class valedictorian, now burys her dreams in romance novels and a bottle hidden in her closest, believing God is punishing her for past mistakes. Anne (Cherami Leigh) is attracted to self-harm as she struggles to find worth within herself and a place of her own in the world. When an angry former Senator (Andrew Prine) sets fire the the town's Nativity, the sparks ignite more than just the wooden statues. Lives are changed forever.

BTFS has universal themes that speak to all people and effectively weaves the idea that there is hope in spite of physical or emotional scars. This richly layered story shares a raw honest portrayal of transformation and restoration after hidden secrets are revealed and healing is allowed to begin. Elements of suspense, romance, and political intrigue are combined with multi-dimensional characters to present an escalating tension that intensifies to an explosive climax, and, ultimately, to a satisfying conclusion. This PG-13 rated film also stars Barry Corbin, Tyler Corie, Lou Beatty Jr., William McNamara, Jodie Moore, Shawn Roe, Andrew Sensenig and Jordan Ross. BTFS was written and directed by Andrew Librizzi and executive produced by Benjamin Dane, who also has the role of Sheriff Deputy Jimmy Wilkins.

The film also inspired an updated version of "Beauty For Ashes" by Crystal Lewis, a novel by Bodie and Brock Thoene, and a painting by Thomas Kinkade which was ultimately reimagined by his nephew Zac Kinkade due to Thom's unexpected death. Beyond the Farthest Star DVD Giveaway

Beyond the Farthest Star is now available in the USA and Canada! Have you bought your copy? I love the film so much that I picked up one for myself --- and one for a giveaway. I strongly believe that this story will appeal to many people on a myriad of levels.

This film
is an insightful, mesmerizing story that centers on the Wells family. Each struggle with resentment and bitterness that threatens to destroy their family...and the emotions intensify following a move to the small town of Leonard, Texas.

When Beyond the Farthest Star was in theaters, I was able to see it several times and was riveted to the screen each time as I picked up nuances missed before. The story is fascinating and the actors do an incredible job of making their characters come to life onscreen. This film also inspired a novel by Bodie and Brock Thoene, a Kinkade painting, and a new arrangement of "Beauty For Ashes" by Crystal Lewis. I am thrilled to now own a copy of the DVD and I highly recommend this movie!
