My Review: Phil and "Miss Kay" Robertson and their family shot to international fame in 2012 with their reality tv show, Duck Dynasty. They are known, of course, for their duck calls and love of hunting, but also for their deep and abiding Christian faith.

"The Blind" takes us back to the "before-they-were-famous" years with a glimpse at Phil's childhood, meeting Kay as a teenager, and his time playing quarterback for the Louisiana Tech University football team. However, the film's main focus is the tumultuous years of his and Kay's marriage with little money, young sons, and Phil's growing erratic behavior due to alcohol.

Then Phil turned his life around when he committed his life to Jesus Christ. His marriage and family were restored to him and his love of hunting led to his invention of an improved duck call. The rest is history.

I enjoyed the film. Although I was never on the Duck Dynasty bandwagon, I did know about the show and read/seen articles and interviews with various family members. I frequently listen to Phil's Unashamed podcast so I am more familiar with the family's faith than with their business ventures. My only complaint was with some of the accents, and even they weren't bad all the time. The actors playing Uncle Si (shown at various ages) were great at capturing his quirkiness and provided the comic relief. I recommend you get out this weekend to see the film in theaters. My Review: This guided tour through areas whose names are familiar to many of us because of Bible study help them come to life through the eyes of David Friedman and Mike Pompeo. I know I will never have the opportunity to go to Israel myself, so I deeply appreciated this film. It's a fascinating look at both modern Israel and the ancient places where Abraham, Jacob, King David, King Solomon, and Jesus lived.

My Review: Both a quirky comedy and a heart-warming message on what is most important, Divine Influencer is a charming movie that is relevant to today's social media mania and how easily we can lose our focus. Liv (Silva) has lost her job, her home, allowance from her wealthy parents...and her IG Followers!! Then she runs into Ryan (Jason Burkey) who runs a local homeless shelter. 

 

When the job of women's RA at the shelter suddenly becomes available, Olivia grabs the chance to have a place to live. Over time, she grows to love the people and find satisfaction with her job.

I loved Stephanie Parker in the role of Karla! And the gruff but compassionate Flora (Rebecca Koon) was perfect in the role and a delight to watch. The entire cast was outstanding. The film was well-written (Susannah Eldridge, Claire Yorita Lee, and Suzanne Niles) and directed (Shari Rigby).

My Review: High School football is ranked right up with college or pro football in many communities and you will see that camaraderie and sense of family when you watch this docu-series about Evangel Christian Academy on Amazon Freevee. After having the worst season in their history, the return of legendary Coach/Pastor Denny Duran brings a new hope to the boys as he molds them into outstanding young men... and football players. His motto of, "God first, family second, and football third" is a winning strategy makes an impact that influences the players, and will make a difference in their lives.

The background stories and honesty as the viewer gets to know the boys draws you in to the series, and some football action added leads to an interesting series the whole family can enjoy.
