MY REVIEW: This is an excellent movie that is so much more than a biopic about the Smallbone family. Many people know Rebecca St. James and the for King and Country brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone for their music. I was aware they had emigrated from Australia to Tennessee, but I knew few details other than they were a large family.

UNSUNG HERO is the story of why they left Australia and the struggles of their early years in America. When the expected job David was depending on to restart his career as a Christian music promoter fell through, his wife provided the firm conviction that their faith in God would hold them together and that He would provide their needs and she remained confident that her husband would become successful. Helen Smallbone became the "backbone" as she taught her young children to rely on God and each other in a joint effort to hold her family together. Her ability to provide faith-building ideas, along with gifting her children with a sense of adventure during the hardships is a source of inspiration to all mothers who know the struggle of holding everything together...even if you feel like falling apart sometime.

Lucas Black
Each actor involved was wonderful in his or her role. I especially loved Terry O'Quinn as David's dad, Candace Cameron Bure as the pastor's wife was a lot of fun to watch, and my fellow Alabamian Lucas Black is always a special treat in any role. Older viewers also need to watch for former HAPPY DAYS actor Donny Most (Ralph Malph) in a brief role.

I thoroughly loved the movie...I watched it 3 times! It is inspirational without being sappy and a strong testament to the power of faith and the blessings and strength that come with hard work, a vow to support one another, finding joy in the little things, never giving up, and always remembering God is with you at all times.

Birthright Outlaw

Her father said her birthright was sealed. A frontier pastor’s love told her otherwise. But when their daughter is kidnapped by her outlaw grandfather, can this couple trust God—and each other—to rewrite their destiny?

A movie for the whole family, BIRTHRIGHT OUTLAW is an old-fashioned Western with a twist of fate—and faith. BIRTHRIGHT OUTLAW stars Sarah Drew (MOMS’ NIGHT OUT, “Grey’s Anatomy”), Lucas Black (LEGACY PEAK, “NCIS: New Orleans”), and Olivia Sanabia (“Just Add Magic”). Directed by Aaron Burns.

Watch "Birthright Outlaw" exclusively on Great American Pure Flix!

My Review: BIRTHRIGHT OUTLAW is a wonderful movie about life on the frontier, family loyalty, and faith. The film starts with a humorous interaction between Pastor Jeremiah Jacobs and his wife Martha. They, along with their teen-aged daughter Hope, appear to be a perfect family. However, when Hope is kidnapped, we learn that Martha has a secret past. Will her loyalty to Jeremiah and faith in God waver when she learns her outlaw father (Jeff Fahey) has Hope and demands his daughter return to her old life.

The movie has very strong characters, and it's always great to see strong, capable women in roles. Themes of forgiveness, second chances, hope, faith despite circumstances, and trusting God when chaos has turned your life upside down. I love the actors in "Birthright Outlaw" and I've never seen an Aaron Burns film I didn't enjoy. I recognize several names in the crew who also make outstanding films. There are several twists and turns along the way with each step bringing the characters to a firmer foundation. I highly recommend it.

Legacy Peak

Legacy Peak is an inspiring family adventure movie about perseverance and moving on from the past. Hoping to propose to her soon, Jason (Lucas Black) wants nothing more than to have Noelle’s (Ina BarrĂ³n) kids like him. But when a
perfectly planned trip to her parent's mountain cabin falls apart, the adventure could tear them apart or bring them closer than they ever imagined. Together they'll discover how to trust again and what it means to be a family.

Legacy Peak will be exclusively on Pure Flix starting September 22nd!

"Legacy Peak" is a movie about pushing past your fear to start a new adventure!

MY REVIEW: I was unsure about Legacy Peak since adventure-type films is not my first choice, but I am a fan of Lucas Black (Jason) and Todd Terry (Grandpa). It did not take long for me to become immersed in the story! Jason wants to marry Noelle, so flying her two kids to their grandparent's mountain cabin seems like a fun way for the three of them bond while Noelle ties up loose ends before traveling by car.

A meticulous planner, Jason has a notebook filled with schedules and ideas to achieve his goal of getting the approval of Noelle's children and dad. Of course, plans fall apart when he is forced to make an emergency landing. Teenager Sam (Kyleigh Bakker) is suspicious of Jason's intentions and reluctant to trust him. Her younger brother Ben (Roman Engel) is enthused, impulsive, and prepared to accept Jason wholeheartedly! Miles from civilization, they have to learn to work together to survive the cold, wolves, and their own fears and insecurities. Ben is also diabetic, so finding food and shelter is vital.

Lucas was perfect in his role as a man who works through his own insecurities and proves himself. Kyleigh and Roman were both very good at character development and it didn't feel like a rush to tie up the loose endings. Todd had a small role, but his character was a man of compassion, kindness, humor, and dependability. Director Aaron Burns also wrote the story and Matt Mikalatos (who is also a fantastic author,) wrote the screenplay. I loved the movie and highly recommend it for a family night film. (*some scenes may be scary for the under-10 kids)

GIVEAWAY: 3-month subscription to Pure Flix! (Note: This is limited to US winners only, and only to those who have NOT won a subscription in the last 6 months.) DEADLINE to Enter: Oct. 3, 2022 #LegacyPeak

Seven Days In Utopia

Seven Days In Utopia follows the story of Luke Chisolm (Lucas Black), a talented young golfer set on making the pro tour. When his first big shot turns out to be a very public disaster, Luke escapes the pressures of the game and finds himself unexpectedly stranded in Utopia, Texas, home to eccentric rancher Johnny Crawford (Robert Duvall). But Johnny's more than meets the eye, and his profound ways of looking at life force Luke to question not only his past choices, but his direction for the future.

I had heard good reviews of this film from various friends who had seen it, so I did look forward to seeing it. I have always loved Robert Duvall and am also a fan of Lucas Black (who was born in a town near me). Other than a childhood love for Goofy Golf in Panama City  (the one with the giant monkey!!), golf is not a sport that particularly interests me, though. So I was relieved to find this is more than just a golf movie: this is a message about golf... life, and God all wrapped up in a story that kept my interest. The lessons that Johnny teaches Luke are those that are important for everyone. The people in the film are flawed, but aren't we all? Suspicions and early jealousies turn into a mutual respect and friendship.

Seven Days In Utopia is more than just a film. Utopia, TX is also an actual place you can visit. There is a golf course, retreats, a book (Golf's Sacred Journey )and you can see videos of the lessons on their website.
