What Is He Thinking?

Rebecca St. James has long been known for her advocacy of purity before marriage and is a great role model for single ladies who are looking for the "right" guy. This is an easy read book filled with questions and answers to the question of, "What does a look for in a girl he dates? What Is He Thinking?"  The recently married Rebecca uses examples and questions she had from her own dating experiences along with questions from friends, Facebook fans, & Twitter followers to gain insight into what a man looks for in a woman he is interested in dating.

A variety of men Rebecca knows gave their candid answers to the questions she asked on a variety of topics. What attracts them to a woman? What are major turn-offs? How do you focus on your own purity? What limits do put put on physical, emotional, and spiritual intimacy? A chapter of advice from men who are already married tells what they did right, or what they would suggest to others. In conclusion, the guys are given an open floor to say any final thoughts.

Although tailored more for 20-35 year old women, there are words of wisdom contained that are suitable for all single women. Teens who are just dating and lack the maturity to make wise choices (I know you think you're grown up, but  "been there, done that") and those more mature in age can find advice that can be put to good use. Even those who are not dating can get a lot out of this book to use if daughters, granddaughters, nieces, friends....come to you for an opinion on dating. Actually, I can think of a few men who could learn a few things from the guys in this book! ;)

I have a huge variety of links you can go to, including one where you can read a portion of the book!:

Changes & Rumors of Changes

For the past few days, it has seemed that Facebook has been the main topic of conversation. I admit, I was among the many, very many, who complained about the changes that appeared on my page last Wednesday. I have tried it for several days, and I must admit........
I STILL HATE IT!!!!!!! There are rumors that there will be even more changes to come. I ask myself, "How much worse can they make it?" I am confident that I will soon be ranting again!! :)

Actually, what I found even more puzzling than the current chaos I am trying to decipher, were the people who admonished me and others with 'Facebook is free! How dare you complain about something that is free? You should just leave. There are more important things in life than Social Media'.  You know, I found that attitude disturbing. A social media site? Sure! But I wonder if that mindset is the same for all things that are free? Plus, why were they so up-in-arms over people who were merely exercising free speech? No one was threatening, using obscene language, inciting a riot, etc.! I know that I was having fun with the silly cartoons and comments.

{Facebook is fun, and I like playing (well, not the games, but that's just me.), but I use it to stay in contact with family, & friends (both old & new), promoting faith-based media, and as part of my desire to pray for the needs of others. I spend a lot of time at home, and I feel that God has opened this option to me to use my time to SHARE His Word and pray for those I would never meet in ordinary circumstances.}

After Wednesday's firestorm of complaints, criticisms, and cross-fire...a new development!! Well, the resurgence of an old rumor: FACEBOOK WILL BEGIN CHARGING!!!! There was the old familiar
FACEBOOK JUST RELEASED THEIR PRICE GRID FOR MEMBERSHIP,$9.99 PER MONTH FOR GOLD MEMBER SERVICES, $6.99 PER MONTH FOR SILVER MEMBER SERVICES, $3.99 PER MONTH FOR BRONZE MEMBER SERVICES, FREE IF YOU COPY AND PASTE THIS MESSAGE BEFORE MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. WHEN YOU SIGN ON TOMORROW MORNING YOU WILL BE PROMPTED FOR PAYMENT INFO…IT IS OFFICIAL IT WAS EVEN ON THE NEWS. FACEBOOK WILL START CHARGING DUE TO THE NEW PROFILE CHANGES. IF YOU COPY THIS ON YOUR WALL YOUR ICON WILL TURN BLUE AND FACEBOOK WILL BE FREE FOR YOU. PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ON IF NOT YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE DELETED IF YOU DO NOT PAY.

I confess that my favorite was posted by my friend Jonathan:
"On September 30th, 2011 Facebook will start charging you for your account. To avoid this, u MUST get NAKED, stand on your dining room table n do the Macarena, all the while singing ”I Will Survive”. After filming n posting it to your Facebook wall and YouTube, then, and only then, will Mark Zuckerberg come down your chimney to tell you that your account will stay free. Pass it on, it must be true because someone on Facebook I hardly know told me.

However, I believe the log in page very clearly states IT'S FREE AND ANYONE CAN JOIN

Plus, although I may be annoyed at their
A rumor on the internet caught our attention. We have no plans to charge for Facebook. It's free and always will be.

Hmm...is THAT a fact that won't change?

In conclusion, I do get bored and annoyed and frustrated with Facebook, but will I delete my account? My relationship can best be described by the following...

(Disclaimer: For those who think I am serious about this song describing my feelings for FACEBOOK... please....!!

To quote the great Foghorn Leghorn, "It's a joke, son!")

C3 Math House Games

Carlito C. Caterpillar
This week I have been going through a new product that is designed for younger children. These card explain several games you can play with the child in your life to make math fun for everyone. The creative concepts are very simple to use and there are downloads available from their website for use with each game. The list of supplies are items readily available around the house, too.

The c3pla Sensory Math Teaching System was created by Domenico Marcario, M.S., a retired math teacher and loving grandfather, to answer those questions. This system utilizes the natural way children learn to teach them math skills. They have built the Carlito C. Caterpiller's Math House GamesTM from this system. The Game Pack is presented in 3 stages, with a total of 20 steps and 2 games in each step covering the math skills of quantitynumeration, and operations. Check it out at their websitehttp://www.c3pla.com/products.shtml

Jeremy Riddle ~ FURIOUS

Fu*ri*ous [fyoo r-ee-uhs]

adjective

1. full of fury, violent passion, or rage; extremely angry; enraged

2. intensely violent, as wind or storms.

3. of unrestrained energy, speed, etc.: furious activity

There is no doubt that FURIOUS, the latest cd offering by Jeremy Riddle, fits the third and lesser used definition of the title word. From the first track, Fall Afresh, I was captivated by this worship cd. One Thing Remains with the reminder, "Your love never fails" is one I could (& have) listened to repeatedly. Actually there is not a single song on this cd that I don't enjoy. I am a huge fan of Chris Tomlin, Hillsong United, Kristian Stanfill, etc., so if that is the style of praise and worship music you like, there is no doubt you will listen to this cd frequently!!

But, I admit, I was enjoying it and was just listening while doing other things until I got to track 7: Walk In The Promise had a slow build-up that drew me in and got my full attention. Even more important, it brought my focus on God rather than the musician. Then, One Thirst became my new favorite!! Listen to it:

The rest of the cd lives up to the promise of the other songs. This is one cd I would recommend to anyone! I admit that I did not know his name before I was offered a copy of Furious to review, but I am now a fan!! Here are a list of links for you to keep up Jeremy Riddle:

CONTEST!!: Since I am a bit late getting this review up (cd releases 9/20), I will choose a winner from those who comment (or contact me) before 10pm (CDT) Thurs., Sept. 22nd. I really think this is one you will enjoy!

Enemies Of The Heart by Andy Stanley

In Enemies Of The Heart, pastor/author Andy Stanley looks at the four emotions that control many of us and explains how we can break free from their influence. The 4 main emotions that he says have the biggest hold on our heart and our behavior are guilt (I owe you), anger (you owe me), greed (I owe me), and jealousy (God owes me). Andy explores how each can have an unhealthy influence on our behavior, how we feel about ourselves, and how we treat others. We simply shrug it off, excusing negative habits as being, "Just the way God made me", or "that's the way many in my family act", etc.

Through personal anecdotes and Biblical advice, Andy explores ways to change those unhealthy habits and attitudes. He stresses the importance to keep our "heart" healthy by not holding on to emotions that damage our outlook. One of the first Scriptures his father, Charles, had him memorize as a child was "Watch over  your heart with all diligence for from it flow the springs of life." ~ Proverbs 4:8. This tells us that we are not to let unhealthy emotions and actions consume us and destroy our relationship with others. Jesus tells us, "So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,  leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift." ~ Matthew 5:23-24. Obviously, restoration of relationships with others is extremely important!

Word of warning: this is a reprint of an earlier book of his entitled, "It Came From Within". (I know that it annoys several people I know who think they are getting a new book, only to realize that a previously published book has been repackaged and retitled.) This was the first time I had read it though, and I saw some glimpses of myself that I need to pray about in order to eradicate bad thought patterns and habits. I also liked the discussion portion at the back. This would be great for a small accountability group to read together.

The Shunning dvd

Katie Lapp, is preparing to marry the widowed bishop, John Beiler, and become a mother to his sons. Yet  her desire to play her guitar and sing songs that are not part of her Amish upbringing leave her feeling restless and uncertain of who she really is. When an "English" woman arrives, searching for Katie's mom, long-held secrets come to the surface.

Laura Mayfield-Bennett is ill, and wants to see the daughter she never knew.  When Katie discovers she's adopted, it only increases the confusion she feels and sparks the quest to explore what might have been. Her rebellion causes the community to shun Katie until she is prepared to repent.

This is a story that has a few too many coincidences for my taste, but still one that I followed with great interest. Consequence of actions, regrets, rebellion, and restoration are all covered and you get glimpses of another point of view. Great acting, and the film did capture my attention and keep it from beginning to end. This film is based on the book by Beverly Lewis.

Make sure you check out the website and LIKE The Shunning on Facebook:

THEO

Theo, an animated student of Godʼs Word, lives in a cozy corner of a quaint English village, in the heart of the Cotswolds, and entertains two mice, Belfry and Luther.  I just had the privilege of viewing two stories from this new curriculum and I whole-heartedly endorse this cartoon. Both of the stories told were colorful, entertaining, and simple to understand. The stories are  short enough to hold the attention of a pre-schooler while imparting messages of faith that are vital to the Christian faith.

These will appeal to elementary age kids, and will open the door to relevant conversation on matters of faith.  They are simply told, but that is necessary when explaining tenets of faith and Biblical history to children. For example, there were aspects in the story of Abraham and Sarah that were omitted (& for good reason), but I loved the emphasis on the type of faith that pleases God.

What set's THEO apart?
The Buy 1 - Give 1 campaign!
For every Theo DVD purchased, Whitestone Media and Child Evangelism Fellowship® will send a child in need their very own copy of Theo.
You can log onto TheoPresents.com after making your own purchase, and select the region of the world you'd like another copy of Theo to be sent.
The first DVD in the series, Theo: God's Love, releases on DVD through EMI CMG on 9/13/11.
CONTEST NEWS!! This time I am able to offer a copy of the THEO dvd to 2 (TWO) Winners!!!!! We will make this a short contest. Just leave a comment by 10:00 pm (CDT) Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011 & 2 people will be randomly chosen to receive a copy of their own!!

Also, due to the importance of this message, here is GOOD NEWS!!

Milestones

Although I already knew the significance today holds for me, it brought a rush of memories back when I saw what I had posted one year ago today. (not ALL of the new FB features annoy me). I had posted the following:
Cindy Navarro is going for a walk since I just realized it is dark again. Hopefully it is much less humid tonight...or it will be a short one.

Everyone is probably thinking, "So? You often post something mundane like that!" And then people who haven't seen me in years are really confused since I used to walk for miles just out of the sheer love of walking. I have mentioned several times about the wreck I had 17 years ago. Locally, I'm sure there are several who noticed that I often had a cane, or even a walker, at times. Unless I knew there were plenty of chairs around, I was afraid to risk not having something to lean on.

Anyway...when I returned from walking that night, it was with tears streaming down my face and the awe that for the first time since Aug. 13, 1994, I walked 1 MILE...unaided!! It was probably a world record for the slowest mile ever walked, but I DID IT!! I couldn't think of anyone who would understand the amazing victory this was for me, but had to share my joy with someone!! I had been "talking" with a fairly new FB friend earlier, so when I saw another message, I shared my news. All I will say is that God led me to the perfect encourager!! :)

This has also been a year of taking control of depression, which has plagued me for years. Have I conquered it? No. Nor do I walk every day. There are setbacks, but the recovery time is much quicker. Sometimes there are legitimate reasons for being sad... or not walking. Sometimes...I just don't want to deal with emotional or physical health. But, I have a God who constantly reminds me of His love (and, sometimes, that is through a friend either reminding me of God's love...or a  "Are you walking?" lol)

Today, I am reminding myself to KEEP WALKING...both physically and in my spiritual walk. After a few days of physical inactivity, that mile today was harder, but worth the effort. As I journey closer to the time when I will forever be walking with my Lord, I want to increase my endurance and victories over physical difficulties and depression. So, this begins Year 2 and my expectations are...

The Grace Of God by Andy Stanley

The Grace Of God by Andy Stanley is an in-depth look at the grace extended to us. What is GRACE? Grace is not getting what we truly deserve. There are more complicated explanations, but this is a book that will help you to understand various nuances. Stanley uses several people from the Bible to demonstrate the grace they received and, in doing so, gives greater clarity to the true meaning of God's favor to us. Moses, Abram, Jonah, Rahab, Matthew, Nicodemus, and the Prodigal Son are but a few of the familiar stories he uses to demonstrate God's marvelous grace. There are 13 chapters that reveal aspects, such as chosen, redeemed, rescued, puzzled, accepted, saved, and other delineations. Each example given renewed my awe at how gracious and loving my Heavenly Father is to His children.

On one hand, this was not one of those books that I cannot put down. You know...the type that fill you with the sense of urgency to rush out and be used of God. However, it is a book that I needed to show me the many ways grace has been revealed in the past, and a reminder that God still extends the same grace today. Whether consumed with my own guilt and shame over past and current sin, or whether I am being judgmental and legalistic to someone else...this is a book that will cause one to pause and consider the reaction. I would certainly recommend this to anyone, but especially to those who feel that they could not be loved by God. We all need a reminder that grace is a gift.

Andy Stanley is the senior pastor of North Point Community Church, Buckhead Church, and Browns Bridge Community Church. He also founded North Point Ministries, which is a worldwide Christian organization. In addition, he is the author of several books.
Stanley now lives in Alpharetta, Georgia with his wife, Sandra, and his three children: Andrew, Garrett, and Allison.

Newest Release By Ginny Owens

Ginny Owen's latest cd, Get In, I'm Driving is a song that speaks to many of her own personal issues, but also appeals to others with its universal message. Her first studio release in 5 years, the songs have more of a jazz feel to them. That normally is not my favorite style, but I admit it has grown on me as I have listened today. The title cut has a touch of irony considering that Ginny is blind, but also serves to underscore that we need to let God be the "driver" in our own lives. "Joined At The Heart" is sure to become a fan favorite. I especially loved the line "...part of a greater story, written by the Author of miracles and stars"!

"Lay It Down"
had a great beat to it, as well as a timeless message that we don't have to carry our own burdens. I also loved her cover of "Higher Ground"; it had a bluesy feel to it that really resonated with me. Now I am torn over which song is my favorite: The upbeat "Daughter Of Destiny" captures my attention with each playing. However, the final track, "The Song" has a poignancy that really appeals to me. Bottom line, all of the songs are good!

Besides her talents as a musician, I love the way she serves God in other ways. I know I remember her involvement with recovery efforts after Hurricane Katrina.  In 2005 Owens launched The Fingerprint Initiative, a hands-on, non-profit organization designed to “bring hope to the world, one project and one touch at a time.” The organization has partnered with  and raised money for groups such as Compassion International, International Justice Mission and Habitat for Humanity.

Please check out Ginny Owens through the various sites listed below. If you are new to Ginny's music, I am sure you will want to check out her previous work. She has a marvelous gift!
