My Daddy Is In Heaven

My Daddy is in Heaven
is the story of Becca (Jenn Gotzon Chandler), Adam (Lane Garrison) and their 5-year-old daughter Acie (Riley St John). They lived a life full of joy as they worked together on their farm, but their perfect family is torn apart when Adam is tragically killed in an ATV accident on the night of their annual Inependence Day celebration. Adam's death caused Becca's worl to spin out of control as she struggled to make sense of WHY her husband died.

Unable to cope with life without Adam, Becca leaves Acie with her grandfather Rick (Corbin Bernsen), and goes for an extended visit with her former classmate, June (Jill Morrison). Due to her shattered faith, Becca's anger with God soon has her rebellioslyslipping into the "Party Girl" lifestyle that June leads. All comes to a climax when Becca is arrested for Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct, causing her to realize that she needed to return to her child and her father. Deciding to accompany her friend, June and Becca board a bus only to encounter an unexpected event that has a profound impact on the lives of both women as they journey home.

My Daddy's in Heaven is directed by Waymon Boone and written by Boone, Joseph Nasser, and Noelle Nelson. Other actors in the film include Lorenzo Lamas, TC Stallings, Lee Benton, AJ Knight and Jim E Chandler. The movie will be available on DVD and Digital March 13th at Walmart, Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, VUDU and On-Demand via local cable providers.

REVIEW: To clear possible confusion, I want to say that this film is very loosely based on the book, My Daddy Is In Heaven With Jesus by Rebecca Crownover. The book was an explanation to her very young daughter trying to help her understand her father's death. The first names and death are the same, but the movie is a story of a young woman coming to grips with the death of her husband and feeling abandoned by God.

The downsides were some of the storylines were a bit hurried although that could have been with editing rather than writing. I also would have liked to have had a few more minutes to get to know Adam and a bit of backstory. I wasn't crazy about all of the characters, but each was in the story for a reason.

Beyond the nitpicking above, I loved the movie. I have been in a similar situation as many of the roles played and the actors breathed life into characters I could identify with as part of my life. My story is not identical to Becca's, but I have been a young mother who felt abandoned by God and went through a period of anger, bitterness, and rebellion. Jenn Gotzon was brilliant as Becca! She made me laugh, she made me cry, and she skillfully portrayed a woman whose world had been overturned to a point she was spinning out of control. I could feel the many emotions as Becca struggled to hide the pain and look for a new normal while both running from and grasping the past.

The chemistry between Jenn Gotzon Chandler and Jill Morrison (June) was tangible and seemed as natural as breathing. June was one of my favorite characters and Jill played the role with a charm and passion that was irresistible. Of course, Corbin Bernson and Lorenzo Lamas gave amazing performances. Rick (Corbin) had a rock solid dependability that masked his inner fears and vulnerability. TC Stallings had a small but pivotal role that touched me as deeply as it did the movie characters. And, Jim Chandler (Jenn Gotzon's husband) was low-key but very charming as Nick; it was a delight to see Jim and Jenn together.

Despite a few discrepancies here and there, I have to give Daddy Is In Heaven 5 stars. The casting of the major roles (and some minor) was excellent and the story of hope and healing after a terrible loss is sure to transform lives. Broken lives and shattered dreams may cause us to stumble for a while but God is always standing by to welcome us back home.

Providence

Providence movie
Love Needs No Words... The tagline of the upcoming film, Providence, is more than just a figure of speech. It is also an apt description of this feature length silent film that relies on action and music to tell a story of a search for love that lasted four decades.

Providence tells the story of Rachel Cartwright and Mitchell Little whose lives touch at many times over the years, but misunderstandings and other interests pull them apart each time. The roles of Rachel and Mitchell are played by are shared of different actors: Emily Knapp and Chase Anderson as young Rachel and Mitchell, Stacey Bradshaw and Josh Allen as the teens versions, and Juli Tapken and Rich Swingle as adults. Each keep the characters true to form which makes the transition throughout the decades believable. All involved with the film are great, but I do want to say that Irene Santiago, as Rachel's mom, gives a remarkable performance. Several recognizable faces from the Christian film industry are in this, including an enthusiastic cameo by Jenn Gotzon.

Writer/director Sharon Wilharm, and her husband Fred (who produces, edits, and films) have collaborated on several movies and videos, and this is not their first silent film project. The Good Book is an hour long silent drama which follows a single Bible as it is shared from one person to another, and the impact its words have on each person who receives it. A single Bible is also a key factor in Providence.

Rachel receives a Bible from her beloved grandmother as a Christmas present, but her mom donates it to a thrift store. That Bible is the only book Mitchell can afford, so he becomes the new owner. Rachel's loss leads her to looking for love and acceptance with the popular crowd, while Mitchell becomes a follower of Christ. They have several encounters in high school that lead to a closer relationship, but that breaks off as they both go in different directions with their lives. Even when they met again as adults, it was mostly brief encounters that never lasted, until they finally realized that they were truly meant to be together after all...and for always. I have heard this story compared to Christ awaiting His Bride (the church) to prepare herself and to Abraham waiting for his promised son. The 40 years also remind me of Moses leading his people out of Egypt to the Promised Land. Since there is no dialogue, each person will probably fill in the silence with their own words and come to their own comparisons.

There are a couple of times when some of the acting may be a little over the top, but overall, this is a well made film that truly does get it's message out without saying a word. And, I definitely want to commend whoever selected the music! The eclectic blend suited my personal taste and provided a perfect background for the action and I loved the score by Sean O'Bryan Smith. The music in the movie is often my favorite part, and he did a great job with it.

The Good Book movie

The Good Book, written and directed by Sharon Wilharm and produced by her husband, Fred, is the latest release from Mainstreet Productions. The film is a silent evangelical film that follows the impact that a single small red New Testament on the people who receive it. As the Bible is passed around, we get a brief look at how God's Word is there to speak to our needs and to make a difference in our lives.

It starts with a boy named Daniel (Evan Fielding) who runs away following a horrible mistake he made. He ends up at a campsite for homeless people and is befriended by Esau (Torry Martin). It is there that Daniel becomes the first to receive the pocket testament. The Bible goes from hand to hand, with the giver signing it before passing it along, and we see how it affect the life of the next who receives it. It is amazing to see how our actions have a ripple effect, touching the lives of brief encounters and the lives of those we will never meet on Earth.

Torry Martin, Danny Lee Ramsey, and Mike Parker
Ok, I don't want to give away each story told, but I do want to mention some of the stories or actors whose performances stood out to me. I will get the bad out of the way first. There was a scene near the beginning that I just did not see the point in, and it was the only one where I disliked the music. But no film is without a flaw (in the eyes of the viewer anyway). And, the film continued to improve until the end.
BK Bomar, Apolonia Davalos

A public defender and his wife (BK Bomar and Apolonia Davalos), had a personal tragedy that I am all too familiar with, and it touched me deeply. Both turned in excellent performances, and I could deeply identify with Davalos in particular. The music during the climatic discovery also touched me deeply. Rick Holets is the composer for this film, and I truly loved the music [other than that one scene].

Of course, Jenn Gotzon lights up the screen of any film she is in. Both she and Amanda Pentecost were highlights of the film for me. Each were very expressive in their actions and you could feel exactly what they they were going through. Gotzon's character went through both joy and sorrow, and she could not have expressed the emotions and actions any stronger if there had been words to speak

Amanda Pentecost, Donald James Parker, and Jenn Gotzon
Josh Childs

When the Bible is launched from the local area into the hands of a foreign missionary (Josh Childs), the poignant message of what a difference this book makes truly hits home. It brings the reminder that this is not a tame tale to be taken lightly, but a book whose message is considered dangerous around the world. The risk to spread the gospel was shown, and the film ended with a spark of hope for the future.

I love old films, including silent ones, so the genre is one I am very comfortable with viewing. I do believe this film will be an excellent evangelical outreach tool. There will be no worries with CC or translating into a multitude of languages. Each scene was presented in a way that will 'speak' for itself to all viewers and get the message across that your life will be radically changed when you read God's Word...and begin to apply those words to how you live.

Thank you to Sharon Wilharm for providing me with a link to see this film for
Fred and Sharon Wilharm
review purposes; no promises were made of a favorable review.
As a side note, I want to add that it was fun to see FB friends Torry Martin, Mike Parker, and Paul Spite (one of my favorite authors) in the scenes with Daniel. And, while I am on a personal "shout-out", Donald James Parker caught my eye, and I thought fellow Cullmanite, Brandon Oliver, was excellent as the employer who was willing to take a chance on someone.

Viewers from the “Doonby” premiere commented after about the movie saying, “
The ending was a surprise with a message that still inhabits my thoughts and searches for an answer as to 'What If?' and 'What can I do?'”

Another attendee said,
It was an excellent movie with an important point… that God does not make nobodies.”

“Doonby is a thought provoking movie that encompasses the human spirit. It has adventure, mystery, drama and above all, true heart! I left the theater with a whole new appreciation and view on life,” said another premiere goer.

"Jenn's protrayal of Laura Reaper was especially compelling; she takes you on this roller coaster of emotions, complete with the drop in your stomach when you realize what all the story threads add up to! And you just go: "Wow!" The audience fell in love with her all over again as Jenn gracefully fielded deep, tough questions and inspired us with her passion for telling life-changing stories on screen,” says “In His Step” lead actress Rebekah Cook who also plays in “Christmas Grace” and worked with Gotzon in 3 movies.

NYC Acting Schoolmates Robbie Lavine and Jenn Gotzon
“Watching Jenn's character evolve throughout the story was riveting. Knowing her since we were young and roommates in NYC attending The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts made me feel a sense of pride. There was a deeper meaning to this story that really makes you think how important every soul is on this earth. The cast portrayed it brilliantly Amazing!!!" explained actress Robbie Lavine who teaches acting locally in Michigan and bi-coastal in Los Angeles and NYC.

Event hosts were Ginger Beggs and Rebecca Huey Krupp from Michigan. Rebecca and Gotzon met during the summer program at The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts in ’98 and have stayed in touch through facebook. Rebecca is currently involved with Motion Pictures in Michigan. Mandi Toan assisted as Jenn’s event & production coordinator.
Rebecca, Jenn, and Ginger

Radio host Ginger Beggs had this to say about the movie: “Never before has a film reached my soul without being invasive or offensive. “Doonby” captures your heart and mind from the beginning, showing the effects of light and dark in our world and how one life can cause a ripple in those effects. From loveable and also dark characters to the amazing twist ending, I was completely captured. If you leave the film without asking questions, then my advice is to watch it again. Provocative, thought-provoking, endearing, emotional and thrilling ride!" - Ginger Beggs, Host/Producer "TheOverdrive Show" on

Jenn Gotzom Misses Premiers Due To LAX Drama

Friday, November 1st, started out as being a day of incredible excitement for talented actress Jenn Gotzon. She had not one, but TWO films with theatrical premiers. Doonby is the story of a handsome drifter (John Schneider) who gets off a bus in a small Texas town and captures the interest of Laura Reaper (Gotzon). The moral of the story is that "every nobody is somebody'. Her plans were to fly to New Orleans to meet with a group of students who had seen Doonby to discuss the film and to inspire them. The planned session with high school students, who had been impacted by Hurricane Katrina, are no strangers to adversity, and Jenn planned on speaking to them about how each life does make a difference and on overcoming obstacles.

Instead, as she was at the air port, her life took a turn that seemed more in line with her other film that was being released, Dragon Day. This film is about a family getaway to a mountain town turning deadly when China launches a massive cyberattack against the USA. But the real life terror was a gunman killing a TSA agent and wounding several others. LAX was closed for several hours, leaving Jenn Gotzon stranded on the curbside with thousands of other travelers.

It was a frightening and frustrating experience for all, and the victims and their loved ones are certainly in our prayers.

Jenn also made a short video update of what was going on and her attempts to get to New Orleans so she won't disappoint the kids who are waiting to talk with her.

Alone Yet Not Alone Returns For A Second Weekend

Alone Yet Not Alone had an enormously successful weekend in its limited opening in Grand Rapids, MI; Franklin, TN; San Antonio, TX; Houston, TX; Dallas, TX; Knoxville, TN; Raleigh-Durham, NC; Atlanta, GA; and Colorado Springs, CO. Due to the turnout, the film has been held over for a 2nd weekend in all locations. Get your tickets here.

Based on the true story taken from the novel of the same name written by Tracy Leininger Craven, Alone Yet Not Alone is designed to encourage and uplift families in difficult times and tells the inspiring story of Barbara and Regina Leininger and their journey of faith and survival during the French & Indian war in 1755. Captured by the Delaware Indians in a raid on their home and transported over 300 miles of wilderness to Ohio, the sisters are sustained only by their abiding trust in God, and their hope of escape against all odds to be reunited with their family.

A movie filled with action, drama and suspense, Alone Yet Not Alone was filmed on location at historical sites in Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania and North Carolina to allow audiences to take the journey with the characters. Filmmakers realized that in order to tell the story authentically, they would need to shoot where the events actually happened or those similar in terrain.

Highlighting themes of endurance, perseverance and faith with positive values and entertaining action sequences that make it safe viewing for families, the film recently garnered the “Family-Friendly Seal” (12+ years) with a five Dove rating from the prestigious Dove Foundation. AYNA stars Kelly Greyson (Return To The Hiding Place) with Jenn Gotzon (God’s Country, Frost Nixon) and actor/musical artist Clay Walker (Clay Walker: Jesse James). Directed by Ray Bengston with co-director George Escobar, screenplay by James Richards and George Escobar.

With its recent box office success, plans are currently underway to roll out a nationwide release of the family-favorite film on February 21, 2014 with opening cities to be announced at a later date.

Alone Yet Not Alone by Tracy Leininger Craven

Alone Yet Not Alone is the novelization of an actual event in the lives of Tracy Leininger Craven's ancestors. The Leininger family emigrated from Germany, settling in the Blue Mountains of Pennsylvania, where they worked to build a new life that had a firm foundation of family and faith.

Their lives were filled with hard work, but there was also joy found in simple pleasures and they lived in peace with all of their neighbors. However, tragedy struck unexpectedly with the beginning of the French and Indian War.
On Oct. 16, 1755, in what became known as the Penn's Creek Massacre, the lives of the Leininger sisters were changed forever. On that day, as their mother and one brother were away, members of the Delaware tribe attacked. The father and remaining brother were murdered as Barbara and Regina fled into the woods. Captured, they are forced to live with the Indians.

With strong faith in God and their close family bonds, even when they are forced to separate, Barbara and Regina hold firmly to the belief that they are never alone and that they will be reunited. Alone Yet Not Alone is an inspirational, fact-based story of a family who were victims of the French and Indian War, yet never wavered in the belief God would never leave them as captives or keep them apart.

My Review: This historical, fact-based book is filled with a lot of info to keep it interesting and a story line that is sure to keep the reader wanting to know more. Suitable for those in upper elementary school and up, it did keep my interest and I even researched more into other reports and writings of the actual event. This is a good book that could be part of a family discussion. (I think Family Book Club meetings and discussions are a wonderful activity!) With its strong focus on faith and family, plus the glimpse of another time in our nation's past, it is a book I recommend. Some parts may be a bit much for imaginative children, but the violence and scarier details are toned down.

I want to thank FlyBy Promotions for giving me a copy of this book for review purposes. I was only required to give an honest review, and all opinions are my own.

But, they are letting me do a...GIVEAWAY!! Flyby Promotions has a copy available to one reader of my blog. Simply leave a comment to be entered into a random drawing to be held Monday, Sept. 2nd, at 9pm (CDT)!

I don't have a copy of this (unfortunately), but I also want to add that Alone Yet Not Alone also has a film version that will be opening in select theaters in September before a wider opening in 2014. You can check Seatzy.com to see if it is coming to a theater near you. (The films on Seatzy do need you to reserve your tickets in advance to guarantee a theater is booked.) Directed by Ray Bengston, the film's screenplay was written by James Richards and George Escobar and stars
Kelly Greyson, Natalie Racoosin, Clay Walker, Jenn Gotzon, Joanie Stewart, Ozzie Torres, and Tony Wade.
