Cheryl Wicker - Coach at Amplify with PR

Cheryl Wicker, PR expert, speaker, agency owner and entertainment professional has branched out to use her expertise and knowledge gained in the industry to launch a new coaching program for professionals who want to learn to effectively do their own publicity. This “hands-on” solution is perfect for those on a tight budget, or for people who simply prefer to do their own marketing. Equally comfortable both in front of and behind the camera (‘Flag of My Father,’ ‘Finding Normal,’ and ‘God’s Not Dead.’), plus with additional experience as a multi-media journalist and working at Howard Publishing (now Howard Books with Simon & Schuster), Wicker is a multi-talented creative freelancer, utilizing communication, promotion, organizational and networking skills in a variety of roles: TV/film producer, casting director, actress, publicist, host of “Christian Movie Connect” and Media Correspondent for several events and conferences. As she has become more in demand as a speaker due to her experience in PR, people turned to her for advice with increasing frequency.  “My life mission is to help people of purpose impact the culture through media. Wicker will be speaking next at the Churches Making Movies Film Festival, a three day event of movie screenings, insightful workshops, and family-friendlyactivities in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Wicker will be leading a workshop on Oct 8^th at 10:15am. Her topic, “The Indie's Guide to DIY Film Marketing,” will include teaching you some of the tricks of the trade she uses in her own agency. She will also show you how to hire and manage your own freelance team.

Other workshop leaders include screenwriter Sean Paul Murphy and Isaac Hernandez, Vice President of Parables TV. The Promise, or The Pros and Cons of Talking to God

"The Promise, or The Pros and Cons of Talking to God" (TouchPoint Press) by Sean Paul Murphy is his "true story of first faith and first love and how the two became almost fatally intertwined." As a Facebook friend, I had read bits and pieces of this on Sean's FB posts and on his blog, so I have long been intrigued to know more about this personal story. I had known his name for a while as the screenwriter of several faith-based films I have enjoyed. In fact, we "met" on Facebook due to a discussion about my favorite of his, Hidden Secrets. I knew I liked what he has written, and I have also learned I like and share several interests with him.

The book is an honest account of Sean's life and the love he had for a girl whom he believed would one day be his wife. Just as I do with his films, I laughed, I cried, I reconsidered my opinions on a few things. I usually come away from his movies with a deeper understanding of the views of another and make adjustments in my own beliefs---sometimes solidified, sometimes altered a bit. While I have also heard the Lord clearly speak to me, it has never been to the degree Sean experienced, and I was definitely intrigued to know more.

It was worth the journey to get the answer I wanted. Sean shared himself and his life, even to the point of a vulnerability few are capable of sharing, and made you feel like these are people you actually know yourself. He is just a few years younger than me, so it was also a bit of a walk down 'Memory Lane' for me with some of his interests. He is a very gifted story-teller with a talent for drawing the reader into his world. His faith is a large part of who he is and I love the way he expresses the relationship he has with God. His failures and frailties are expressed with the same honesty as the forgiveness received. I definitely recommend this book.

Hidden Secrets

Hidden Secrets is an ensemble cast film that reminds me a lot of The Big Chill. When several old friends gather for a long weekend to attend the funeral of a beloved friend, the old memories, new lifestyles and rigid attitudes cause conflict among them and jealousies to surface. Jeremy (David A.R. White) arrives with fiancee' Rachel (Staci Keanan) who is clearly jealous of his past relationship with Sherry (Tracy Melchior). Successful author Harold (Gregg Binkley) is married to the rigidly legalistic Rhonda (Autumn Paul). Rhonda is determined to convert Gary (John Schneider)...much to his amusement. The secrets that some of these people have are very hot topic issues that can be treated with contempt or overlooked as being inconsequential depending on your worldview or beliefs. Will their past change their present when it is revealed? Other cast includes Corin Nemac, Reginald VelJohnson, Rachael Lampa, and Building 429. Directed by Carey Scott and written by Sean Paul Murphy, Timothy Ratajczak, Michael Scott, Carey Scott, David A.R. White, and Russell Wolfe.

Actually, this is one of my favorite faith-based films. I think I have known most of these characters and been a few of them during different times in my life. Rhonda was the character most either disliked, laughed at, or identified with up to a point. It can be hard to love others as Jesus does when you always see things as black and white, wrong or right; you can easily lose your compassion for others when legalism rules your thoughts..I think this film has a good balance between relaying a Christian message and entertaining the viewer. I laughed, and even got teary-eyed at points, but there were things that made me think too. I found myself examining my own attitudes toward many people and topics. Great writing and believable characters and just a lot of fun to watch.
