EPISODE 6 'The Request' REVIEW: The final episode of Season 1 finds Charley (Cynthia Geary) making a "bucket list" field trip for Katherine (Charisma Carpenter) and Alec (Christopher Weihl), while Janey (Cozi Zuehlsdorff) continues to grow into her new job.

While "Going Home" episodes can be watched as stand-alones, this story line is spread out over the series when college best friends are reunited after many years of estrangement. Tensions, fear and anger intensify as it becomes apparent that Katherine's time on Earth is coming to an end. Charley is an award-winning Hospice nurse, but her personal connection with her dying friend causes her professional mask to slip from time-to-time. Tying up the loose ends of their friendship as well as final preparations for helping her family cope with her approaching death and living without her are realistically portrayed as Katherine's emotions include regrets, concern for her children, frustration... and even some gallows humor.

Of course, the emotions are also felt by the viewer as we react to both this fictional story, and personal experiences are also brought to mind. But this episode, and the series itself, is a comforting reminder of the Hope we have. I definitely would recommend "Going Home" as an engaging story that can be cathartic for some, but also has moments of humor, inspiration, comfort, and reminders of what is truly most important.

‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” – Revelation 21:4 (NIV)
