GOD. FAMILY. FOOTBALL trailer

GOD. FAMILY. FOOTBALL.
This streaming series features the rich, diverse personal stories of Evangel’s players, coaching staff, and the broader Shreveport community, set against the dramatic backdrop of the 2022 Louisiana high school football season. With the perennial high school football powerhouse—14 state championships in the last 20 years—coming off their worst season in school history, redemption is everyone’s goal.

Legendary high school football coach, Pastor Denny Duron, has returned to the head coaching position to lead this talented group of kids, with dreams of playing in college and the NFL, into prominence on the field, while molding them into future leaders off of it. As the team faces struggle and triumph on and off the field, they are united by Coach Duron’s formula for success: “God first, family second, and football third.”

EPISODE 2 "Judge Knott" SYNOPSIS: The TNT (Tommy and Tina) Team are feeling the tension of the transition to a new Program Director Jerry (Pat Cashman) and a new Producer... a recently promoted intern named Lucy (Kendra Ann Sherrill). Tina (Emily Pendergast) is tired of being not being treated as Tommy's (Dave Coulier) equal.

When Tina's new segment, "Judge Not" is an immediate success, Tommy is jealous. Combined with Jerry's obvious preference of Tina, Tommy is struggling with the new changes from how 'things have always been' and having to accept, and even welcome adjustments and new people.

The
difference in styles are evident during their interview with Skillet's John Cooper interview: Tommy wants to ask the culture questions while Tina dives deep into faith.

Bible Verses for Episode 2

  • Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. – Psalm 27:14 (NIV)

Enter Into Easter With Pure Flix

Easter is quickly approaching and is the perfect time to gather with family and friends to remember why it's such an important time of the year.

Christian Easter movies are an outstanding method to remind us and open conversations about the sacrifice Jesus made for us and why we rejoice! PUREFLIX offers a selection of Easter films that is suitable for various ages and interests.

Films about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, including
"The Passion of the Christ," give a visual that stays with you and there are others similar or there are movies that tel the story from the point of view of others. Some people prefer the documentaries Pure Flix offers or the visual Bibles that use Scripture for the narrative.

Are you or the kids fans of Brickfilm? (A brickfilm is a film made using Lego bricks, or other similar plastic construction toys.) PureFlix has them! And, they have not forgotten childhood favorites like VeggieTales and Superbook or the animated feature, "The Lamb of Judah." Teach them early that Easter is more than chocolate bunnies and painted eggs, but with age-appropriate films. Check out what films and series are on Pure Flix: PureFlix.com

Before revealing which is my favorite and why, I want to thank Pure Flix for providing a sample of the product for this review. Opinions are 100% my own. They are also offering one FREE 3-month Pure Flix subscription! Simply type #PureFlixEasterMIN in a comment on my blog or a social media post about this contest.

Giveaway is limited to US winners only. Winner’s full name and email address are due no later than 4/8/22.

I have seen several of the Easter offerings you can find on Pure Flix, but my favorite of all is "The Chosen." This is a multi-season production, directed by Dallas Jenkins, currently in production. (*Pure Flix is only offering Season 1 at this time.) Based on the true stories of the Bible, this series revolves around Jesus Christ and His followers. Remember that many of the stories told are based on what COULD HAVE HAPPENED. The Chosen brings the Bible to life in a way meant to intrigue the viewer and, hopefully, cause people to spend more time reading Scripture.

To be fair, not everyone agrees with each story, but even the parts that are fictionalized open my eyes to seeing things from a new angle. When a person says or does something not in Scripture, it often leads to me exploring my own attitudes and actions. Normally a stickler for Biblical accuracy, nothing I have viewed has offended me in any way; I merely think, "not likely," and move on. But a nugget of truth (sometimes boulder-sized nuggets) is often uncovered as I combine re-reading Scripture and speculating on what I have seen. My favorite films are always those that make me think.

The Crescent Stone - Matt Mikalatos

A girl with a deadly lung disease . . .
A boy with a tragic past . . .
A land where the sun never sets but darkness still creeps in . . .

Madeline Oliver has never wanted for anything, but now she would give anything just to breathe. Jason Wu skates through life on jokes, but when a tragedy leaves him guilt-stricken, he promises to tell only the truth, no matter the price. When a mysterious stranger name Hanali appears to Madeline and offers to heal her in exchange for one year of service to his people, Madeline and Jason are swept into a strange land where they don’t know the rules and where their decisions carry consequences that reach farther than they could ever guess.

MY REVIEW: YA Fantasy Fiction has never been a particular favorite of mine, but I have loved other books by Matt Mikalatos so I wanted to give this a chance. I admit it did drag a bit for me at times, but that's not the fault of Mikalatos. In fact, although it took me longer than usual to read "The Crescent Stone," I did want to know how the story was going to turn out. It definitely points in his favor that I had enough interest to keep going forward.

And there were quite a few twists and turns on the journey. Things and people were not always what you thought and there were a few surprises along the way. Most of the characters were very intriguing. I was disappointed not to see some further developed and a few did not interest me as much so I would get a bit bored.

Sometimes there was a touch too much of social justice warrior type conversation, yet I did thoroughly appreciate historical background that is not shared as frequently as when I was in school. More important for me was that the reader is made to realize that things aren't always what they appear and that there may be another side, or even sides, to a story.  Of course, I am several decades beyond the intended audience age... and have less interest in this type of fantasy, so I am not the intended audience. I definitely recommend it for others to try.

I received a copy of this book for review purposes from Tyndale House Publishers.

When Grace Sings by Kim Vogel Sawyer

When Grace Sings by Kim Vogel Sawyer is the 2nd book in The Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy. This book opens with reporter Briley Forrester and his boss working on an undercover scheme to expose the Mennonite community as not being the idyllic people that tourists believe. The plan is for Briley to become a long term boarder at Grace Notes Bed and Breakfast in Arborville, Kansas.

Alexa Zimmerman has just opened Grace Notes in her grandmother's old home and is establishing a means to support herself and in hopes of being accepted by the family she has only recently come to know. (For more on this story, read When Mercy Rains) Things are further complicated when her cousin Anna-Grace moves into the boarding house to help her fiance', Steven, restore and repair the house which has been bequeathed to him.

I did not read the first book in the series, so I am a bit leery of writing an accidental spoiler. Therefore, I am not giving many details. I will say that Kim gives enough background from the first book that I did not feel that there were huge pieces missing. Yet, she also shared just enough to pique my interest in wanting to read, "When Mercy Rains" so I can get the full picture of what happened. So, while not a stand alone novel, it is still a satisfying story. Of course, as with any good writer, she leaves you wanting more. I definitely want to read "When Love Returns" when it is released.

The characters were well developed and people you could understand. Even when I would think, "that's not what I would do," I understood the motive and mindset of each because we did get a fuller picture of each. To me, creating fictional people you would like---or even dislike---in real life is what draws me into a story and hold my interest. I have read several of Kim's books and she is very skilled at adding layers to the people who populate her novels. To be honest, I am not a huge Amish/Mennonite genre fan, but Kim has once again presented a story that I thoroughly enjoyed and kept my attention.
