The Wonder of Creation - Louie Giglio

The Wonder of Creation by Louie Giglio with Tama Fortner is a fascinating book of devotions about God and science that is sure to delight elementary-aged children. The engaging illustrations by Nicola Anderson and striking photography in this fun and informative book highlight each of the 100 devotions. The book features a scientific fact or an easy activity for exploring faith, a short Bible verse, and a closing prayer.

Readers of the book will explore
• Animals--from honeyguide birds to flying snakes to white rhinos
• Space--from black holes to volcanic moons to gamma-ray bursts
• People--from optical illusions to brain freezes to our immune systems
• Earth--from rainbow rivers to blue lava to flowing
glaciers
• And much, much more!

I enjoyed reading through The Wonder of Creation. It was informative, and focused on the incredible world that God created for us to enjoy. The devotions fit with the scientific facts perfectly, and the short prayer is an extra connection to God to tie it all together. Younger readers will need more help, but the parental involvement actually makes Devotion Time even more special and memorable. I highly recommend it for a child, but even moreso as a book for a family to read together. Get a copy now: BUY the BOOK

Say and Pray Devotions ~ Diane Stortz

Say and Pray Devotions is a very sturdy padded board book that serves many purposes. The left hand side gives a topic, with a short sentence to expand upon it and then the right side gives a short Scripture that could be easily memorized by a 3 or 4 year-old and a simple prayer to use. Examples are listed below:

  • YUMMY!
Good food tastes yummy and helps me grow.
[God] gives food to the hungry - Psalm 146:7
Thank You, God, for good food. Amen.
  • Good News
Jesus is our Savior. That's the good news!
We bring you the good news. - Acts 13:32
Thank You, God, for Jesus! Amen.
And then there are the illustrations, by Sarah Ward, on all pages that are labeled to help teach reading and word identification. Just as we read the Bible to learn and for it to make an impact on our lives, this simple book can be used the same way for toddlers and younger kids.

I want to add that this is a very sturdy padded board book. It has easily survived my 14 month old great-granddaughter's attempts to read it by herself and the sticky pages were easily cleaned after she left. I love having a book that I am comfortable with the little ones holding themselves that is also useful for me teaching them simple concepts of my faith. The pictures with just a one word description are fabulous for the younger ones, but can also lead to conversations ranging from what is seen on to telling stories based on imagination. I believe this is going to be a favorite book at my house.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through FlyBy Promotions.

I Will Follow Jesus - Judah & Chelsea Smith

I Will Follow Jesus is a Bible Storybook, written by Judah and Chelsea Smith. Written for younger children, this book is not only sturdy and durable itself, but contains a sturdy and durable message to introduce little ones about the relationship they can have with Jesus.

Without a doubt, this is my favorite Bible storybook of any I have read. Covering both the Old and the New Testament, the stories told are simplified for children without losing the important message. The introductions give examples kids can relate to like "Have you ever had a friend try to get you to do something bad?" (Daniel) or asking if you have ever told people things you thought were right, but you found out you were wrong (Paul). Then, a story from the Bible is summed up, accurately, but in a form children can understand. After the Scripture, is an "I Will Follow Jesus" that emphasizes the lesson learned, followed by a short prayer.

Children between the ages of 4 - 8 are the intended audience for comprehension level, and the older kids should be able to read it for themselves. This is a 7.2 x 1 x 8.2" hard cover book with thick pages and a satin ribbon to help you keep you place. The book is also beautifully illustrated by Alexandra Ball. I wouldn't recommend it for toddlers, but only because they would be literally chewing on the book rather than on the words that instill a foundation for Christian faith and what it means to follow Jesus.

I received a copy of this book at no cost to myself for review purposes from BookLook Bloggers. All opinions are my own and I was not required to write a positive review.
