God's Not Dead: We the People

 

Coming to theaters for THREE NIGHTS ONLY is the 4th film in the God's Not Dead series. God's Not Dead: We the People brings back several familiar characters including Reverend Dave Hill (David A.R. White), Martin Yip (Paul Kwo) and Ayisha Moradi (Hadeel Sittu). Christian singer Francesca Battistelli, Antonio Sabato Jr. and Amanda Jaros are featured as Christian parents fighting for the right to continue educating their children at home. Isaiah Washington, William Forsythe, and Judge Jeanine Pirro also have pivotol roles.

Synopsis: The God’s Not Dead franchise continues in "God’s Not Dead: We the People" as Reverend Dave (White) is called to defend a group of Christian homeschooling families.  He finds himself taken aback by the interference of the government, and believing that their right to educate their own children is a freedom worth fighting for, Reverend Dave is called to Washington DC to testify in a landmark congressional hearing that will determine the future of religious freedom in our country for years to come.

 My Review: In my opinion, each movie in this franchise improves with each film, and GND4 is no exception. The writer, Tommy Blaze, put together a story that kept my interest, included facts that I enjoyed learning, and toned down some of the rhetoric included in previous films. God's Not Dead: We the People is on point with an issue that I see many debates about, especially in recent years. Homeschooling is gaining more acceptance, but there are many opponents, too. This film tackles the issue of a parents rights in the education of their children versus what rights should the government have in education.

Christian (faith-based) films are not a one-size-fits-all mode than many seem to expect, and I place this franchise in the category of encouraging believers (aka "preaching to the choir"). In a world that seems filled with turmoil, anger, and despair, we need films that inspire and give us hope. It's a reminder that God is in control and He is still the God of miracles. Run On features David A. R. White, Tommy Blaze, and Brad Stine in this theatrical comedy. Each give a humorous, yet poignant history of their own prodigal journey. Although told from personal experiences and very different backgrounds, they all have the same theme of trying to escape and run from God.

David A.R. White, shares his story of how he left his Mennonite community in Kansas and came to Hollywood at the age of 19.

Tommy Blaze, a comedy veteran, tells his story of his marriage difficulty and trying to get a divorce that God wouldn’t allow.

 Brad Stine, “God’s Comic”, one of the most well known Christian comics in the country, shares his experience of being called to “ministry” and ending up in the belly of a whale.

The Parable of the Prodigal Son is one of my favorite stories in the Bible and these 3 versions these men share from their lives is told in a manner that made me laugh...and cry. Tears may seem odd since this is a stand-up comedian venue, but laughter and hope are what remains. This is one that you will not want to miss!!

Marriage Retreat "Special Edition"

Marriage Retreat "Special Edition" is an emsemble cast film that focuses on 3 couples who are each at a breaking point in their marriages, but too consumed in their own needs to recognize their faults. Mark and Claire Bowman (David A. R. White, Andrea Logan White) are fighting because Claire wants a baby, and Mark most emphatically does not. James and Donna Harlow (Matthew Florida, Anna Zielinski) are not accustomed to trusting God, and Donna's growing fear of losing James is causing her not to trust him, either. Bobby and Melody Castle (Tommy Blaze, Caroline Choi) are now struggling financially as Bobby gambles on risky ventures to get rich quick. The love and laughter is fading in each of the marriages as they grow further apart.

 When their pastor (Reginald VelJohnson) invites the leaders of a marriage retreat, Craig and Katrina Sullivan (Jeff Fahey, Victoria Jackson), as guest speakers, they invite those who want to remake their marriage to sign up for their sessions at their country retreat. These 6 friends see this as an opportunity for a weekend getaway to relax...and to let their spouses 'finally learn how to show them some respect'. Will this road lead them back to the ONE they love?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was so excited to get the opportunity to preview this film. I am a fan of Pure Flix films and this one looked very good. Marriage Retreat: Special Edition has already moved onto my favorites list! There were moments of just sheer fun and genuine laughter as I watched this film, along with a few scenes that did bring tears to my eyes. Each issue the couples face may not be one you have dealt with, but there is sure to be something that resonates with the viewer. This isn't a film strictly for couples; I am no longer married, but there were things that caused me to think about my relationship with God and others in my life. I loved the music in the film and felt it went along wonderfully with the plot. A scene that featured a character by the brilliantly funny Brad Stine is pure pleasure to watch. However, there is also a theme that is symbolized that really spoke to me, but I don't want to give away any spoilers. The couples and the situations they were dealing with are relevant for today, and it taught a lesson while entertaining.
