"He Calls Me Daughter" is Coming to Angel

He Calls Me Daughter is a deeply personal and emotionally powerful film that explores what it means to carry a father wound and what it takes to heal from it.

Watch He Calls Me Daughter now on Angel and experience stories of healing, identity, and restoration in the lives of several women.

Through raw storytelling and spiritual insight, the film reveals how unmet needs from an earthly father can shape identity, relationships, and self-worth. But it also offers a path forward. One rooted in the love of a Heavenly Father who restores, redeems, and redefines what it means to be a daughter.

Directed by Rick Altizer (Show Me the Father, Chonda Pierce: Laughing in the Dark), this film features Chonda Pierce, Meg Meeker, Alex Kendrick, BJ Arnett, and more. Written by Alitzer and Tracy Robinson.

If your relationship, or lack of one, with your father has damaged you in any way, this is a film that will have a story you feel connected to and allow you to start healing. A "father wound" with your earthly father can also make an impact with your relationship with your Heavenly Father. Ranging from resentment or distrust to feeling you will never be good enough to please Him, you may recognize a pattern.

As each woman shares her story, honesty and hope shine through the darkness as a beacon leading you a better place. It's not a preachy film, but is faith-inspired. Don't think of this as only a film for females, though. Men are often pushed aside in their children's lives except for their role as physical provider. They need to know how important they are physically, emotionally, and spiritually. "Daddy" is a vital role in the life of a daughter (or son).

He Calls Me Daughter is the kind of film that resonates deeply but is often overlooked by traditional platforms. Angel provides a home for stories that go beyond entertainment and into transformation when stories like this are seen, shared, and experienced by the people who need them most.

Be sure to watch He Calls Me Daughter on Angel to experience a story of healing, identity, and restoration.

A Week Away: The Series

A WEEK AWAY: THE SERIES  is a story that follows a defiant foster teen who is dragged to church camp. Determined to resist what he sees as the hollow promises of faith, Max (Antonio Cipriano) slowly feels the walls he built begin to crack and gives way to introspection. As he discovers he’s not alone in the struggle against grief, anger, and the ache of belonging, he learns that healing can’t be forced— it must be chosen.

This musical series follows a group of teens as they embark on a summer at Camp Aweegaway — a Christian camp filled with adventure, friendships, and unexpected self-discovery. It’s an expressive and resonant story about identity, trust, and the courage to face what’s within.

A Week Away: The Series is fun and engaging, safe for family viewing, and honors faith-based principles without being a ‘lesson in Christianity.’ Currently streaming on Angel, check out the trailer:

MY REVIEW: A teen musical about a Christian camp? My first thought was "Campy" and the pun is 100% intended! 😎 I did have doubts at the beginning, but I quickly got hooked by the story and loved the music and the dance routines. This was filled with fast-paced routines that kept me entertained. The music, however, was my favorite and I loved how it wove through the story to add depth. It is geared more to teens, but it appeals to the entire family.

The premise of the film is a week-long stay at a Christian church camp for teens, and the visitors include some nonbelievers and skeptics from foster homes. So, while the music, dance, and humor keeps you laughing, singing, and moving this is not just a cotton candy experience that is all fluff and no substance. There are struggles with doubts over faith, wondering if God can actually be real, and why didn't He answer me when I called out in the past. Some of the kids have experienced trauma and horror no one should go through, abandonment and neglect by parents who failed to love and protect them, and the fear of trusting anyone...especially a God you can't see. Is faith just wishful thinking? I admit I sobbed through some of the scenes. Yes, there was joy in this fictional series, but the acknowledgment of real pain brought this up to another level.

Director Alan Powell can be proud of this one. I certainly applaud the actors: Antonio Cipriano, Cozi Zuehlsdorff, Sacha Carlson, Ava Jean, Haven Greene, Luke Concepcion, Leigh-Allyn Baker, Jason Marsden, David Koechner, and Carlos PenaVega. And I can't ignore the amazing background actors; you will love their hilarious performance telling us about themselves.

"A Week Away: The Series" just started streaming, so be sure to check out Episode 1 (of 7). Be prepared... it will get you laughing, singing, dancing, and it just might inspire you to show love to someone in need.

The King of Kings

The animated film The King of Kings is now streaming on Angel.com and the Angel App and available to all Angel Guild members.

"The King of Kings" brings the life of Jesus Christ to the screen with breathtaking animation, a stirring musical score, and a powerful retelling of the Gospel story that has resonated deeply with audiences of all ages and backgrounds. The film was produced by South Korean animation house MOFAC and distributed to global audiences through theaters and Angel’s innovative platform.

"The King of Kings" features a father telling his son the greatest story ever told, and what begins as a bedtime tale becomes a life-changing journey. Through vivid imagination, the boy walks alongside Jesus, witnessing His miracles, facing His trials, and understanding His ultimate sacrifice. The King of Kings invites us to rediscover the enduring power of hope, love, and redemption through the eyes of a child. Directed by Seong-Ho Jang and featuring an all-star voice cast, "The King of Kings" has captivated audiences worldwide.

Watch The King of Kings now on Angel.com or download the Angel App on iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, and other major platforms. For more information, please see angel.com/collide.

My Review: Inspired by a book written by Charles Dickens for his children, "The Life of our Lord," "The King of Kings" starts off with a frustrated Dickens and his King Arthur-obsessed son, Walter. Walter's imagination soars as he, his cat Willa, and Dickens are transported back to the birth of Jesus and continue through the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. The animation, by South Korean company MOFAC, is colorful and pleasing to the eye. It is sure to keep the attention of children and adults. Well-known voice actors, including Kenneth Branagh as Charles Dickens, Uma Thurman as Catherine Dickens, Pierce Brosnan as Pontius Pilate, Mark Hamill as King Herod, Roman Griffin Davis as Walter Dickens, Forest Whitaker as PeterBen Kingsley as High Priest Caiaphas, and Oscar Isaac as Jesus Christ, bring the level of storytelling up another notch.

The movie may not hold the attention of younger children but is suitable for kids 8 years old and up. The story of Jesus can be hard to watch and hard to understand, but "The King of Kings" brings it down to a level suitable for younger viewers without downplaying the events. This is excellent for parents to share with their kids or for a children's church or Sunday school class. It will definitely open the door to conversations about Jesus. Director Seong-Ho Jang is to be commended for creating such an impressive film.

Cabrini

"CABRINI" is the powerful epic story of Francesca Cabrini, an Italian immigrant who arrives in New York City in 1889 and is greeted by disease, crime, and impoverished children.
Cabrini sets off on a daring mission to convince the hostile mayor to secure housing and healthcare for society's most vulnerable. With broken English and poor health, Cabrini uses her entrepreneurial mind to build an empire of hope unlike anything the world had ever seen.

From Alejandro Monteverde, award-winning director of "Sound of Freedom," and Angel Studios, the film also stars Cristiana Dell'Anna, John Lithgow, David Morse, Romana Maggiora Vergano, and Giancarlo Giannini. Opening in theaters on March 8, you can buy tickets at
Angel.com/tickets/cabrini

My Review: I was aware of a few basic facts about Mother Cabrini and her work among the poor, but had never taken a closer look at her life. Cabrini is a biopic based on her fight for the equality, health, and happiness of immigrant orphans. Her work, over a span of 34 years, includes establishing an astonishing 67 hospitals, orphanages, and schools. Despite health issues, her energy was fueled by an intense focus on serving Jesus in whatever He asked of her. Mother Cabrini was canonized in 1946 by Pope Pius XII and became the first American citizen to be named a saint. Four years later she was given the title of Patroness of Immigrants.

The film is wonderful. Cabrini was a remarkable woman by any standards, but the movie shows a clearer portrait of what women faced in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Without using graphic images to tell the story, the audience still gets a poignant reminder of life for immigrants who arrived in America, expecting streets of gold, but finding poverty, filth, rejection, disease, early death, and very little hope to succeed. A wonderful team of actors brought the story to life and you won't forget the performances. And I can't say enough about cinematography, directing, film angles, lighting, (because I don't know what I am talking about 😉) but the film looked marvelous and I loved it all. I highly recommend this movie to all. Go see it, beginning March 8th!

Sound of Freedom

Sound of Freedom, based on the incredible true story of Tim Ballard, shines a light on even the darkest of places. After rescuing a young boy from ruthless child traffickers, a federal agent learns the boy’s sister is still captive and decides to embark on a dangerous mission to save her. With time running out, he quits his job and journeys deep into the Colombian jungle, putting his life on the line to free her from a fate worse than death.

Angel Studio’s goal for "Sound of Freedom" is for two million people to go see the film in theaters the week of July 4 to remember the two million children who are trafficked every year. You can find showtimes at Angel.com/tickets. You can help pay for other people's tickets to come to the film at angel.com/freedom #2MillionFor2Million

My Review: "Sound of Freedom" is a MUST SEE film, & the week our nation is celebrating Independence is a perfect time to be reminded that there are captives, including very young children, who need our help. Starring Jim Caviezel as Tim Ballard, the story focuses on the beginnings of "Operation Underground Railroad" and the rescue of two children.

It is a hard film to watch due to subject matter, but one that must be brought to the attention of caring people. I remember reading about Tim Ballard and his organization several years ago, but the movie brings it to life. Alejandro Monteverde's directing is amazing, and he also co-wrote the story with Rod Barr.
Eduardo Verástegui produces and has the role of Paul, Bill Camp is Vampiro, and Mira Sorvino plays Mrs. Ballard. The rest of the international cast and crew can be proud of their work and contribution to such an impactful film.

Do NOT bring young children to this movie, and parents should decide the maturity level of tweens and teens. I believe teenagers should see the movie to understand the dangers of sex slavery, but they need adults (parents or leaders) to discuss it. Nothing graphic is shown but the subject matter is horrifying. Shining light into the darkness is a major step in helping to end child trafficking. We can't all personally rescue children, but we can donate financially to groups who do and pray.

His Only Son

After being called on by the Lord, Abraham's faith is tested on his 3 day journey to sacrifice his son. His Only Son recounts one of the most controversial moments in the Old Testament—when Abraham was commanded by God to sacrifice his son Isaac on the mountain of Moriah. While traveling to the place of the sacrifice, alongside Isaac and two servants, Abraham is flooded with vivid memories from the years he and Sarah spent longing for the son they were promised—the son he must now lay upon the altar.

Angel Studios is releasing a new film, HIS ONLY SON, which explores the dramatic test of faith that Abraham and Isaac endured. Buy tickets today to see HIS ONLY SON in theaters March 31st!

MY REVIEW: The story of Abraham being told to sacrifice Isaac has always left me with questions. Trying to imagine a man sacrificing his own child is hard enough, but I have also wondered about Isaac's reaction. Was he scared? Angry? Willing? Both displayed a degree of trust that is inconceivable to most of us.

The Bible doesn't answer all of the questions or even let us know how old Isaac was. His Only Son is historical fiction, but writer/director David Helling turned the facts into a fascinating, plausable story of what could have happened while keeping the message intact. It may be difficult for anyone who hasn't read Abraham's story (Genesis 12 - 25, especially Gen. 22) to follow the entire plot, but it is a good film. I loved the cinematography, especially the night sky filled with beautiful stars. It truly brought to Genesis 15:5 to life: He took him outside and said, “Look at the sky and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then He said to him, “Your offspring will be that numerous.”

Be sure to check out the movie for yourself. Bring family, friends, or your entire church! This is a wonderful film to watch and discuss as Christians prepare to celebrate Resurrection Sunday on April 9, 2023. Check HisOnlySonMovie.com for tickets, theaters, and other info.
