My Review:This is a quick read, but novellas can have a bit of a rushed feeling to them in order to get as much of a story into the shortened work as possible. That means that sometimes there is an abrupt change of feelings within characters that does not seem quite natural. To go with the sewing theme, some of the seams did not quite fit as well when segued into the next storyline. There was nothing glaring, but a few times I did wonder how a character reached the point they did with their feelings.
The characters that are highlighted with stories of their own did not always behave like my first impression of them as we get to know them better, but it's like that with real people. However, I would have liked a greater exploration into the "whys" of some of their thoughts and actions. At times I was more intrigued by secondary characters than I was the primary ones, but I guess that leaves room for more of them to have stories of their own. I have always enjoyed finding characters I know living in other stories, but, for some reason, none of these really endeared themselves to me. So, while I have recommended the book to others I know who have an interest in that time frame or in the friendships of women who become friends through a common interest, it was only an average read for me. It was good, but not, "I can't wait til the next book" good.
